Jericho town sales

Purchasing allotments at the next terminus

The first sale of allotments for the new railway terminus at Jericho took place on 26 May 1885, just 2 weeks before the terminus opened. The sale took place in Pine Hill where residents were anxious to move on to the new terminus. Of the 140 lots offered 61 (43.5%) were purchased including most of those on which improvements had been made.

Notes on the database:

The database lists initial purchases from 1885 to 1899. It includes the date of sales, size of allotments, purchaser and the price paid for the allotment. When located, details of the Deed of Grant have been listed.

Notes about purchasers and the value of improvements provide personal information. Improvements enclosed in brackets indicate that buildings or other improvements on the allotment had been removed before the lot was purchased. The movement of hotel buildings, shops and other businesses from terminus to terminus was common as rail line construction continued.
